DIY: Raspberry Thyme Adaptogenic Mocktail

By Rustina, Contributing Writer

I know a lot of people love going out for drinks on the weekends, but I have never been that kind of girl (dancing – yes, drinking – not so much lol). It is fun to get together and use all those adorable shot glasses that I like to collect, though!

Even better, I can use these fun drinks for some added health benefits also!

I love using apple cider vinegar or kombucha because both are great with aiding digestion. Apple cider vinegar is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, supports healthy digestion for good nutrient absorption, supports blood circulation, and may help with blood sugar levels. You can read more and see the studies in The Truth About Vinegar (and How to Use It). Learn how to make your own apple cider vinegar in this DIY. Kombucha helps encourage a healthy gut flora and is full of great nutrition. You can learn about kombucha in these blogs: DIY: Herbal Kombucha and 5 Easy Kombucha Recipes, and All About Kombucha.

Raspberries, lemons, oranges, honey, and thyme also have great nutrients to add to your health!

Raspberry Thyme Mocktail

Makes about 8 1 oz servings

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of raspberries
  • 1 lemon, sliced (or a ¼ cup of juice)
  • 1 orange, sliced (or a ¼ cup of juice)
  • 2 tsp of thyme
  • 2 tsp of astragalus
  • 1 cup of filtered water
  • 2 tbsp of honey
  • ½ cup of apple cider vinegar or kombucha

There are 2 methods to make a drink like this: heat accelerated like a tea or slow drawing like a simple concoction.

Heated Directions:

Step 1: Mix all ingredients (except honey and ACV/kombucha) in a small pot of water. Heat on med-low for 15 minutes.

Step 2: Strain and squeeze out all the juices. Then, add the honey and ACV/kombucha to mix thoroughly.

Step 3: Pour into shot glasses for a fun little mocktail hour!

OR

Slow Drawing Directions:

Step 1: Heat water to boiling.

Step 2: Then, mix all ingredients (including the now hot water) in a 1 quart jar with a lid (squeeze the citruses as you put them in).

Step 3: Shake the jar a few times and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. You can strain it if you prefer just the liquid after that, or just go ahead and pour!

Tip: If you do this slower method, you can reuse the fruit and herbs for another round (albeit slightly weaker). Refrigerate until used. It will last about 2 days.
