There are a million recipes out there for kale chips, but this one’s special. 🙂
Most recipes use olive oil, and most people really say you shouldn’t heat olive oil. Â I was staring at a pan full of bacon grease after breakfast one morning when I got an idea….
Yes! Â Kale chips with bacon grease!
These are very yummy and it’s truly a healthier, more stable fat. Â Really. Â If you think I might be crazy, check out this post on healthy fats to learn more. Â Then come back to learn to make these.

Kale Chips
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch kale (I had just over a lb.)
- Bacon grease (about 1/4 – 1/2 c.)
- Sea salt (I like Real Salt)
Directions:
Look at the beautiful kale I picked up from the farmer’s market.
Remove all the leaves from the stems, and place them in a colander.
Rinse the kale thoroughly to get any dirt or bugs off it. Â Then, it’s time to toss it in the bacon grease! Â Warm it gently if it’s solidified; it needs to be liquid for this.
Toss until lightly coated, then transfer to a baking sheet.
Totally gorgeous, right?
Spread it out so that it’s a single layer as much as possible. Â Bake at 350 for 10 – 15 minutes, checking often in the last few minutes so it doesn’t burn. Â Remove from the oven when it’s slightly crispy. Â Transfer it to a plate to cool, and salt liberally.
That’s it!  When it’s cool, transfer it to a bag for keeping, and snacking. 🙂
Do you like kale chips? Â How do you enjoy eating greens?

I love kale chips! And mmm mmmmm bacon! What a great idea!I usually dehydrate mine. Are yours crispy? Other recipes I’ve seen call for lower heat and longer cooking. Def going to try!
Yes, mine are pretty crispy. 🙂
If you don’t have bacon grease could you use butter? Thanks
Yes! Or olive oil or coconut oil even!
